Morphy's Immortal Game
This game is one of the best instructional games for any beginner of Chess. The journey from the novice to the expert in Chess takes three leaps of thinking. The first is when a player things "material". Every decision he or she makes is based on material count. Over time the player evolves to become a "time or a tempo" player where the decision is based on ability to attack or checkmate. The next step of the journey is to think "quality or position".
In this game, Morphy treats us all to the a wonderful display of how tempo and quality trump material. He just needs a R & B to checkmate. Black with 12 extra points (1 extra Queen & Knight) is just left speechless. Enjoy.
