2021 FIDE Online Olympiad | Russia wins Online Olympiad 2021

Wednesday, September 15, has been circled on the calendars of many chess fans around the world, as it is the 2021 FIDE Online Olympiad's final. It is the second FIDE Online Chess Olympiad, Organized by Fédération Internationale des Échecs. It was Virtually Hosted by China. A total of 153 teams participated in the 2021 FIDE Online Olympiad, which were divided into 4 divisions, with the top two teams from each division advancing to the next stage.

FIDE Online Olympiad 2021 ended on Wednesday, 15 September with a match between Russia and the USA. In the semi-finals Russia defeated China and USA narrowly edged past India after a blitz-playoff.

As per the ratings Russian players had a clear plus and were odd makers favorites to win the Tournament. Russian team lived up to the hype : by winning both matches of the finals 3.5:2.5 the Russians also won the Online Olympiad 2021.

Last year, in the final of FIDE Online Olympiad, Russia played against India and both teams were declared co-winners as the Indian players had suffered from massive problems with their online connections. USA scored the first full point of the day when Awonder Liang defeated Andrey Esipenko. Russia Fought back with wins by Vladislav Artemiev and Aleksandra Goryachkina ), which cost USA the First Match.

In the second match, the games on the top boards ended without winners, but Alexandra Kosteniuk won in grand style against Irina Krush.

With this, the Russian have once again established their dominance in the world of chess.
